Book Review: Maddy West and the Tongue Taker

Review:  #633
Title:  Maddy West and the Tongue Taker
Series:  N/A
Author:  Brian Falkner
Read Before:  no
Comments:  Maddy is a girl who can speak all languages… just naturally.  Needless to say, that kind of puts her in a dangerous situation where other people want to take advantage of her.  This is a fantasy novel so it is full of magic but it also roots itself into the real world, so it doesn’t quite reach the level of fantasy required for readers to lose themselves into the world.  Frankly, The Tongue Taker does not have a deep enough plot to capture your attention.  Maddy meets a few different characters but things just happen spontaneously, like heading to Bulguria, or a witch capturing her or even just her guardian angel.  Things just happen without any reasoning even though you would expect one by the end of the story.  Speaking of which, the ending was abrupt and disappointing.  Overall, Maddy West and the Tongue Taker is a mediocre novel that’s quite forgetful.
