Book Review: Accel World 5: The Floating Starlight Bridge

Review:  #606
Title:  Accel World 5:  The Floating Starlight Bridge
Series:  Accel World - 5th volume
Author:  Reki Kawahara
Read Before:  no
Comments:  The Floating Starlight Bridge takes the virtual reality fighting game Brain Burst to a whole new level when the space elevator Hermes’ Cord is completed, and creates a whole new section for players to get in.  A special game event is run to celebrate this milestone expansion into space, and of course, Nega Nebulus will take part.  This fifth volume of Accel World dives deeper into Haruyuki’s feelings, and how his life, and his personality has changed from being a bullied loner into a person with close friendships and bonds.  Then it goes on to unravel the sadness and longing locked within Sky Raker, and how her past is preventing her from getting her duel avatar’s legs back.  Finally, as part of the event, an epic space race between ten contestants from different legions close off the climax, leading to a massive battle and continuance of subplots from previous volumes.  This makes The Floating Starlight Bridge interesting and action packed.  It dials down on the technical explanations of the game’s mechanics, and while the scenes in which Kuroyukihime and Fuuko teases Haruyuki is extremely clichéd, everything else makes up for it.
