SHUTTLE MODE:

This update of Sky Lynx remains true to his original form and transforms into a shuttle with external boosters on the underside.

He has two gold thrusters on the back which looks nice.

Unfortunately, he has a significant amount of undercarriage kibble and while this is expected based on his appearances, the bulk underneath doesn't look like much and it is effectively folded up robot parts.

Like other non-Deluxe sized figures in the Combiner Wars line, Sky Lynx comes with a card showing off a piece of nice artwork.

Size-wise, Sky Lynx is not as wide as Silverbolt but he has more bulk height-wise.

This is a good shuttle mode if you can accept the bulky undercarriage.

TRANSFORMATION:

To get Sky Lynx into robot mode, it is actually quite simple.  The limbs unfold from the undercarriage and the front of the shuttle extends to form the neck and head.  To be honest, there really isn't much else you can do since the original toy and character model was so simple anyway.  The difference here is though, is that there is no longer a separate bird and lion component, it's all the one piece into the combined mode.

ROBOT MODE:

The "robot" mode is Sky Lynx's better mode.  He is a quadrupedal robot, with the front of the shuttle as his head, and the cockpit windows as his eyes.

He looks good in this mode, and his two weapons attach to the rear fin to form a longer tail.

His head isn't changed too much from the shuttle mode (which makes it feel as though his robot mode is so obvious when in shuttle mode), he has a mouth now though which can be hinged wider for a roar.

Sky Lynx is really well formed in this mode, the only negative here is the hollow torso since the front limbs fold out from there.

In terms of size, he is naturally shorter than your typical Voyager due to his quadruped nature.

Otherwise, he remains pretty much as big as jet mode.

In terms of poseability, Sky Lynx has an articulated neck and his front limbs are pretty decent, with joints to allow it to lift out, rotate and "elbows".

The rear legs are another matter, they're fairly limited and restricted.  The worst thing is that his rear feet is hinged inwards and straight out of the box, they're too weak to support the body, sinking back into their slots.  You will definitely need to get out a screwdriver in order to allow it to keep it's weight in other poses.

His weapons are twin swords, however, they're not only for his tail.

You can peg him to his wings (which can rotate) for some long-ranged weapons, although this does mean he has a stubby tail.

A robot mode that looks good on display but in terms of posability, he is limited.  Then again, this is a quadrupedal robot, not something that we often get so he's got the novelty factor.

OVERALL:

Sky Lynx is a nice figure but it's mostly the novelty factor working for him.  The fact that the undercarriage is permanently attached to shuttle mode is slightly disappointing (if understandable considering the gimmicks).  His robot mode looks fantastic albeit limited in terms of articulation.  Sky Lynx is recommended if you like his look and can find him for a good price.

As a Voyager in the Combiner Wars line, Sky Lynx has the ability to transform into a torso and have four other Deluxes to form Sky Reign.

No doubt about it, Sky Reign has one of the best looking torsos, as well as an awesome head out of the line.

He looks fantastic with the Aerialbots even though he is supposed to officially combine with Hound, Smokescreen, Trailbreaker and Wheeljack.
