John Carter

John Carter, a film infamous during its release for being a massive box office bomb and for the marketing campaign not being very effective such that people did not know what it is about.  Based upon a series of books, John Carter is about a man who, through a series of events, travels to Mars where he finds civilizations and makes his mark there.  I liked the fact that it puts Mars weaker gravitation into play, allowing John Carter to make massive jumps and being stronger than the Martian natives.  The story has some pacing issues and feels bloated.  It never feels like it is building up to something, rather it is some events strung together without a clear objective.  It was also confusing at the start when it focuses upon John Carter in his life on Earth and you're left wondering how he managed to get from his mundane life to the sci-fi fantasy that was teased at the start of the film.  The ending was good and provided a neat closure to the story.  It is computer effects heavy and there are times where the Martian inhabitants don't look so good.  Overall, if they could cut out some scenes to make the story snappier then John Carter wouldn't have been as much of a slog, nevertheless, it wasn't terrible.
