To Love-Ru Vol. 9

VOL. 9 – AN UNEASY NIGHT
Trouble 71 – The Enemy of My Enemy is My Friend?

Again we see how Run’s jealousy can be a bit evil and make her look bad, since she wants to embarrass Lala in front of everyone. She teams up with Saki but of course, they do not prevail as Lala’s luck is much for them (or her strength…). The chapter ends with Run hiring Yami, so this should be interesting to see. I don't really like this chapter for the fact that I don't like these petty fights.

Trouble 72 – The Strongest Girl in the Universe

An all out battle between Lala and Yami, surprisingly, Lala is holding her own, I mean, Yami is supposed to be one of the best assassin in the universe, yet… she seems to be defeated or even kept at bay quite easily. Anyway, a good exciting chapter that is more interesting than most, with the dialogue being quite good. Yami is as cool as always, and Lala isn’t that bad, she displayed some powers we haven’t seen before such as being able to shoot lightning or some sort of energy beam from her tail (it seems that her tail is both her strong and weak spot).

Trouble 73 – Bad Mood? Good Mood?

A chapter showing the brother-sister bond of Rito and Mikan, it’s ok in a sibling sort of way. Mikan is really observant though, knowing that Rito also likes Haruna (it was a good joke when Mikan said to Rito “oh so it’s Haruna-chan not Sairenji-san in your mind?”). Nothing else to comment, I’m pretty neutral about this chapter, its different to other chapters I guess.

Trouble 74 – Deducted Points

A chapter about Kotegawa, the usual content, with Kotegawa being strict and enforcing school rules upon the students, curiously she didn't say the word “shameless” at all in this chapter, which is very unlike her (then again Rito didn't suddenly get himself into an awkward moment). She starts to show feelings for Rito in this chapter as well.

Trouble 75 – Strange Connection

The chapter focuses on Haruna and her feelings for Rito. We see that she is a considerate person deep down. Oshizu makes an appearance and pretty much causes a minor havoc for Rito (who doesn't even know what he had done wrong in the end when he gets punished).

Trouble 76 – Sleepover Party

A continuation from the previous chapter (but only minor, since its still individual chapter stories), I liked this chapter. Yami has been eating taiyaki ever since she had arrived on Earth!! I like the occasional frame in some chapters with Celine in it and we see her eating a bowl of ramen in this chapter. With a decent amount of humour, it is a good chapter.

Trouble 77 – An Uneasy Night

The last in the three related chapters, they all go to sleep and Rito hears a sound in the house at night. He goes investigates and meets up with Haruna, turns out the ‘burglar’ was Rito’s dad, drunk, and Rito hilariously gets smashed by his dad. Like the previous chapter, a nice carefree chapter with a decent amount of humour.

Trouble 78 – Crisis

We get to learn a bit about the past of Mikado in this chapter, although very little is revealed. This chapter is basically setting up the scene for the next, where all the action is going to be taking, as Haruna and Kotegawa had been kidnapped by this mysterious organization.

Trouble 79 – Choice

As mysterious and sudden as the organisation appeared, they soon get defeated, but then again, they are facing the Princess of Deviluke and the number one assassin Golden Darkness. The organisation is a rebel organisation wanting to bring down the current ruler of the universe. They had seemed such a threat but defeated so easily, and are never mentioned again… So while it was an interesting read, they never felt like a threat, just seems like they have been boasting.

Overall

We get some good chapters and some bad chapters in this volume, some of them is really good, so this volume is once again recommended, yet… I do recommend skipping some of the more pointless ones as they don't add anything to the relationships going on.
